About Me

Hello! I am Dr. Isabel Casimiro, aka MudPhud Mama. I’m a physician-scientist and endocrinologist passionate about reducing metabolic disease, and my research focuses on better understanding the pathways involved in fat tissue inflammation.

I’m originally from Los Angeles and Compton, California, and I now live in Hawaiʻi with my spouse, our two children, and a lively mix of cats and chickens. That balance of science, medicine, and home life is a big part of who I am, and it keeps me grounded in the work I do.

Throughout my career, I’ve been deeply committed to efforts that support recruiting and retaining underrepresented minorities in medicine. I care a lot about who gets to feel like they belong in this field, and I stay involved in educational and mentoring initiatives because of that.

I serve as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, where I teach and work with trainees in medicine. My clinical focus includes general endocrinology, thyroid disease, thyroid cancer, gender-affirming care, and metabolic disorders such as diabetes, obesity, and lipid disease.

I also serve as a peer reviewer for medical journals and as a faculty adviser for the nonprofit Healthy Steps Hawaii. At the center of everything I do is a simple goal: to make medicine feel more human, more accessible, and more connected to the people it’s meant to serve.
